Concrete Lifting Process

When concrete starts to crack, sink, or buckle, you might think you need to replace it. However, there is a less expensive and more efficient option: concrete lifting. Concrete lifting is the process of elevating and leveling sunken or uneven concrete using polyurethane foam. This process is becoming increasingly popular because it is a cost-effective way to restore concrete surfaces without having to replace them entirely. Keep reading to learn more about the concrete lifting process, including why you might need it and how it is done.

At Intelligent Concrete Lifting & Stabilization, we offer residential and commercial concrete lifting, driveway leveling, garage floor leveling, void filling, soil stabilization, and more. The Concrete Lifting Process

Here is a step-by-step guide to the concrete lifting process:

Step One: Discovery Conversation

The first step in the concrete lifting process is to contact a professional company like Intelligent Concrete Lifting & Stabilization to talk about your needs. We will ask you questions about the concrete surface that needs to be lifted and schedule a time for our experienced professionals to come to your home or organization to complete the service. We may need to come and see the concrete surface in person before beginning the work.

Step Two: Arrival & Hole Drilling

When we come to your home or business, we will assess the concrete surface that needs to be lifted. To begin the concrete lifting process, we will use a large industrial concrete drill to make small holes (about 1″ in diameter) through the affected concrete to access the soil (or void) below. This process will create a small amount of concrete dust that we will clean up.

Step Three: Polyurethane Foam Injections

Next, we will slowly inject a liquid/foam material made from polyurethane into the holes to fill the void below the concrete and raise it to the correct position. This foam will only stay soft for a short amount of time; within an hour, it hardens to a super firm, solid material that does not disintegrate or degrade.

Step Four: Curing Time

Polyurethane foam takes under an hour to dry, harden, and about 24 hours total to cure. However, you should be able to drive or walk on the lifted concrete surface again within an hour.

Step Five: Hole Filling & Clean Up

The final step in the concrete lifting process is filling the concrete holes and cleaning up the small amount of mess the process creates — we promise to leave your home as good as new! Because the concrete we will use to fill the holes is new, it will be noticeable for a short time. However, a few months of weathering should make the new concrete match the existing concrete.
